Your best shot at protecting the tranny is flushing the fluid every 30-50K miles. If there are parts floating around that can be picked up by the filter, you are too late!!

The filter needs to be placed behind the radiator, in the bottom return line. I suggest getting a copper 90 degree pipe elbow and lots of clamps. The filter is about 4 inches long and needs to be replaced every 25K miles or so.
