Which Systems Affect Fuel Economy?

I am getting about 19mpg in almost the same car (12.4l/100km). I guess that's not a whole lot worse than your 21mpg.

My air guide is also missing (I've been playing with the idea of building a new one from a garbage bin), but my tires are pretty sedate rain tires IMHO. My turbo seal is getting weak too.

As a side note, I think I saw you mention in another thread that you might consider rebuilding your turbo some day... I would be very interested to hear how this goes if you ever get the courage to take it on. I am thinking of doing the same thing someday. I don't think it will last forever this way, but you never know....

I love my car too and have no plans of getting rid of it, which is why I'm looking into the fuel economy.

I'm going to test my ETC when I get a little time (just had a little one and time is at a premium) and I will undertake a little tune-up now that it's spring (MAF clean, IAC clean, new air filter, new fuel filter, time for new plugs (got a recommendation?))

BTW has anyone ever had any luck cleaning injectors without removing them? I have no evidence mine are dirty, but I know they can get pretty gummed up.
