Hello, Headlight assemblies surely changed a lot from 2002 to 2006. The low beam in my car is the outer lamp and it's a short H7; no plastic base. The dust cap is easily removable. A 15 degree turn does it. The bundled wires aren't even in the way. Once opened you can see the flimsy plug at the back of the bulb as well as the wire bail which holds the bulb in place. Volvo must have dreamed up something completely wacko for 2006 as there's no "Pull off the top of the rubber cover"(#2 from your list)on either beam in my car; just dust caps. Removal of the air cleaner box facilitates changing bulbs on the driver's side. That's the only complication I've ever come across. The "L" shaped bulb/base is the inner lamp/high beam in my vehicle. After 37 months of ownership I've yet to see one of those go out. I get an average of 18 months out of my low beam bulbs. Kira
