overheating/blue smoke 850 1995

You never told us what happened 6 years ago!!! Did you replace the head gasket or the motor? Did you replace the thermostat?

You need to bring the car to a reputable repair shop and have the oil and antifreeze checked for contamination (leaking head gasket).

If you have a cheap thermostat, they tend to stick in the closed position when they fail and that will cook your engine. The Volvo OEM type will always fail in the open position which results in a colder engine, which is no big deal.

Blowing blue (oil) smoke when over heated could be a result of high engine temps and increased crank pressure and oil vapors being forced passed the valve guides because the PCV is clogged. This scenerio is most rare, but a cheap fix.
