How to fix your Air Conditioning without bread ties V70-XC70 2004

This is concerning cars where you know you have freon in the system, and the A/C cycles off when the air is hot and driving, and it doesnt come back on for 15 minutes to an hour or more. Or more simply when the clutch gap on your compressor has exceeded the ability of the magnet inside to pull and hold the compressor engaged.

I took my car to an a/c only shop, and after paying the guy $175 he 'fixed' my car. The car is a 2004 V70. I had read on several boards of a fix that requires 'bread ties' for the 850's and early V70's, but in the later years you would need some super thin shims since the bread ties are too big, and you have to be a pretty good contortionist as well to install them.

Anyway, the fix applied to my car, and from what I understand has been applied to Many 850's, S70' and V70's, is to simply bend the tabs a bit. You do it by using a 2' long socket extension or something of the like, and a hammer. Put the extension on 1 of the 3 rivets on the clutch and give it a good tap, then continue this 2-4 times around(monitor the gap), and you should be good to go, with no shims to fly out!
