So yesterday I was driving home jam-packed car w/ family from vacation, mostly at interstate speeds in 85 or so degree weather. Suddenly, about 5 miles from home, the car seemed to shudder and the "check engine" light came on. I made it home, unloaded the car, and after an hour or so took the car for a drive to get a handle on the problem. The warning light was still on and the car seemed to be "missing" or sputtering when I stepped on the gas, and it seemed to have a bit less power. This evening, I was set to drop it off at my mechanic so he could check it out bright and early. However, when I started it up and drove, nothing was wrong and the check engine light did not come on. I drove it a bit and it seemed fine, strong, faultless.
So the question is, I guess, what happened, and should I worry, or should I just wait it out and figure the problem went away on its own?
