Did this car ever have a remote? Is yours broken? You can get a new case and trasfer the innerds from the old case.

I am not sure that the 1997 can be self programmed: turn the key to position II 5 times and leave it in position II. If the red light on the dash starts blinking rapidly or stays on solid red, then you can program your remotes.

Yes, the remotes are different. If you have one, check the numbers on the back to make sure a new one is compatable.
