Klaus,
The description of your pads sure doesn`t sound like something you would allow to happen even in a Minnesota winter.
Just did the rotors/pads on wife`s XC in August....they were in need of replacement & didn`t inspire a lot of confidence as I found when a deer jumped out in front of us in Montana. Fortunately, we had scheduled brakework that week at our "new" indie shop in MT(now we can afford to drive a Volvo again).
