Strange ECC behavior S70 1998

I have just noticed what seems to be a "bug" in the electronic climate control logic. I had both fan speed control and air selector on "Auto", AC off, recirc off, both temperature selectors set to 70 degrees F. The temperature outside was 34 deg F. Everything was fine and as usual. Then I decided to open the windows during the non-highway part of my commute since it was very nice out. I rolled down all windows, put my hat on and enjoyed the sunshine. As expected, the ECC cranked up the fan and air temp to try and keep the 70 deg I set. No problem. Now I am coming close to the highway part of my commute and roll up all the windows and get ready to "launch" into the Italian Tuneup part of my drive. Once the widows were up, the fan and air temp CONTINUED to be high and very quickly the temperature inside the cabin started to resemble a sauna. The fan speed and temp did not change. I chose to endure the sauna for a while to see if this will correct itself. It didn't during the next few minutes, so I pushed the fan speed slider to "Off" and then back to "Auto" and everything went back to normal operation (temperature stabilized to what I set). In over two years of ownership I have not noticed this "bug", so I am wondering if it is new or I just never provided the conditions before (or paid attention to strange behavior). So, maybe some fellow x70 owners (excluding '01 V70 - different car) can perform a similar experiment to determine if this is a glitch in all the systems or maybe mine is getting ill.

TIA.
