#1. You should have posted your problem in the Rear Wheel drive section.
#2. You bought a car for $350 and expect it to get you from A to B without problems? That $350 is equal to $35 back in 1965, not much.
#3. Axles do not break or bend, find a better mechanic that will not rip you off.
#4. If the shaking seems to come from underneath your seat or the rear end, I suspect that the center carrier bearing may be loose. If it breaks, you will be stranded. It is easy to diagnose, just try to shake the driveshaft - if it moves, fix it.
#5. Welcome to the club, we are all poor and getting older. At least you get SSA money.
