Advice Needed - Flushing Transmission Fluid 850 1995

I have a 1995 Volvo 850 Turbo with 57,000 miles.

I plan to replace the ATF fluid with Mobil One Synthetic ATF.

Instructions from Bay 13 /Haynes Manual call for removing the battery and battery tray and disconnecting the lower transmission oil line from the transmission oil cooler.

What do I connect my clear plastic drainage hose to ? The end of the disconnected hose or to the nipple on the transmission cooler?

The instructions as I read them say to connect the drainage hose to the disconnected line and to plug the fitting on the bottom of the cooler. However, seems you should connect the opposite and plug the disconnected line??

In what direction does the ATF Fluid flow thru the cooler and return to the transmission? To effectively drain the system you obviously want to capture the old ATF fluid and not leave any in the cooler, right?

Do you intercept the fluid just before it enters the cooler or right after it goes thru the cooler??

Does the ATF go into the cooler at the bottom and exit from the top ? Or the other way around?

I am confused…
