Bill,
I`ll "second" Art`s perspective. We went from an `81 240, great car by the way,to a 95 850. The 850 was a big leap on all levels. After driving that for 5 yrs my wife decided she wanted an XC so we found a very nice `03 XC70 which we have owned for several years. It`s been an excellent car tho we did have some electronic issues the first 18 months of ownership. The DIM went south & that was a $2000. "hit" at the dealer & the ABS module also went on it. I have since found a place that repairs those components for much, much less than the dealer: Xemodex.com
My wife has a 100 mile daily commute & the XC has stood up to the demands. I have a friend who bought an 04 XC & he has had zero issues with it in the 3 yrs he`s owned the car.
That`s been our experience & generally, we`ve been real happy with our XC.
