When it happens again, pull all of the codes in A2 and A6, before you attempt to restart.
If the fuel pump relay dies, which it can do with increasing frequency, then there will not be a gas smell. If MY wife were driving, I would just replace the relay and leave the old one in the glove box. That would eliminate one variable.
Check the small vacuum line from the fuel pressure regulator (at the fuel rail) to the vacuum tree. If there is any gas in the line, the regulator died.
