If the flame trap is the problem, would it have blown the gasket, or are you suggesting that it may the flame trap instead of the gasket and it was misdiagnosed?

What is the suggested change/clean interval for the flame trap? I've never touched it, but I've only had the car for 20k miles. (50k when I bought it & 70k now.)
