control arm confusion S70 1998

Finally got around to attempting to replace the control arms as an attempt to correct the car "floating" upon braking. The driver's side control arm bushings were compromised. The bushing closest to the front actually moved back and forth. The back bushing was torn on the outside.
I am stuck at this point trying to install the new Control Arm. I have mounted the arms to the chasis but cannot get the balljoint back into position. I swear the whole rotor assembly has moved about 1/3 of an inch outward. I thought that maybe the new Control Arm was short but it is the exact same length. I must have messed something up but haven't a clue what I did. I am stuck. Any ideas? George
