Replacing rear brake pads -- questions S40-V40 2000

Hi,

My MY2000 S40 has about 20k miles now and the rear brake pads are getting low (the front ones are still good). I want to replace the pads myself with the help of a knowlegable friend. I appreciate any tips as to any special procedure I need to do, any precautions, and whether I need a special tool. Thank you very much for your help.
