Re: Sticky Accelerator, and question for the techs 850 1995

Fixed the sticking gas pedal part just last weekend on my '95. Clean the throttle body. Take it out and wipe with a rag soaked in carburetor cleaner. I had to scrape some with my fingernails. It takes a while for the cleaner to soften up the gunk. Don't forget to have a new gasket before you start. I supposed this could help the hesitation, don't really know. Clean it and then see how it works.

This won't do anything for the check engine light, but you can go to bay 13 for instructions on how to read the diagnostic codes to figure that one out.

Question for Volvo techs: does the throttle body get cleaned as part of any of the scheduled maintenances? I bought my 95 in November with 93K miles and have copies of complete service records from the dealership where I bought it. As I said I just cleaned the throttle body, it was really gummed up. At the same time I did my '97 (65K), it barely needed a wipe down. I'm wondering if the TB on my 95 had never been cleaned and it is normal to be "gummed up" or if I should be looking for other problems. For example a recent post suggested a failing EGR valve.
