Re: rear shocks 850 1995

Hello,

I had a similar experience to that posted by Ching-ho Cheng, except that it was the passenger side mount that broke when my 96 850 Turbo Wagon had about 60,000 km on it. Replaced under warranty. I tried to convince the service manager at the time to replace the driver's side as well but they wouldn't go for it, claiming that the mounts break only very rarely. I think the mount itself was defective, as I don't remember ever going over bumps so huge that the mount should break.

I'm going from memory here, but I believe the way to pull the floor panel out to inspect the mount is as follows. There were a number of bolts or screws at the edge of the panel towards the back of the car. Once you've undone them, pull on the panel towards the back of the car and the front of the panel should release from the mounts it slips into. With the panel off, it becomes very obvious on any minor bump that the shock is moving up through it's mount. There is some clearence between the top of the mount and the bottom of the panel, so you won't actually hear the thunking sound except when you've hit a fairly good bump.

Garth
