Steven,
Thanks for your reply. You have described the problem EXACTLY as I have experienced it. I ordered the Service Bulletin from the Volvo Bookstore last night - a great service - and downloaded the bulletin this morning - It is interesting that in order to properly flush the trans one must remove (actually, have the ideling trans pump out) 2 quarts of oil, then add two new quarts of oil, then repeat the process 7 times until the oil is red - as in new oil. I sure hope this will be covered under the warranty, and I expect it will be because there is a mention of that in the Service Bulletin.
I got several bulletins from the Bookstore, including one that explains the tire wear issue (#4 46 0005 dated 01/01)- with all the appropriate warnings about same tire all around etc. that has been well discussed on this Board. The Bulletin's are copy writed so I will not post the full content but I don't think they would mind if I quote part of it...."Caution! Failure to always drive on properly inflated, identical tires of correct dimensions may result in a circumference difference between tires on the front and rear axles. This will cause excessive tire wear and may damage the transmission and all wheel drive system." This does not sound like just someone's opinion, so fore warned is fore armed!
Now if I had the opportunity to spend time with some folks from Sweeden I would ask why such little difference in tire circumference can cause so much mechanical damage in such a short time....and, BTW, how much difference is too much.
Thanks again for the reply.
