Dont know the answers, but I was wondering about your system. Does it go down to street level road names? I tested out the Acura system at the auto show, and at the highest level of detail, most side streets had no name labels.
As far as mapping data goes, I have been using it on computers for years, and the updates do not always apply to the area you are located. One way to research would be to find out who is supplying the map data, and ask them if they have performed any regional updates, and what type of updates (roads, attractions, gas, etc).
I still like my laptop / GPS combo (which I own for other uses also) better which can speak directions, give complete routing and logging, and I have my choice of $19.99 map data (or free after rebate) from a variety of sources. But then again, I dont use it often, but it's handy when needed.
Palm Pilot mapping is more handy when GPS functions are not needed.
