Hi fellows,
My car has started developing a cluncking sound mostly audible in an indoor parking garage with the windows down. The noise seems to come from the front at low speeds when the steering wheel comes back to neutral after a right or left turn. I have experienced a couple of scenarios to see how I can reproduce it:
- brakes lightly applied and steering wheel comes back to neutral.. clunck.. clunck.. clunck...
- I shift the transmission from drive to park, brakes on, car not moving.. clunk!..
- If I leave the trans in "D", standing still and promptly hit the brakes on and off, no noise.
- When turning the steering wheel when standing still, no noise at all.
Last visit to the dealer was to grease the steering rack but that didn't help. Any ideas where to look at now? Worth mentioning is that the "clunck" can not be felt from the steering wheel. This is only a noise issue.
Thanks!
