I replaced the muffler on a 1995 854, same problem. My jackstands extended to 24 inches and I could have used an other inch. I suppose I could have scrounged around and found a 6X6 block of wood to put the jack stand on...

BTW, once up in the air, keep your floor jack at a good point for a safety net. I just don't like being under cars...
