Type of engine does matter, NA or turbo. Both engines will develop vacuum leaks after 10 years, resulting in a 'lean' condition.
The oil dipstick check is for vacuum and can only be reliable if the light pressure is attempting to inflate a finger on a latex glove covering the tube.
Best is checking a vacuum line at the intake manifold with a vacuum gauge, as it should read around 17psi negative at idle with a warm engine.
