I'll just betcha that you had some oil spill, right behind the fill hole, where it quickly seeped down under the black spark plug cover and worked its way slowly towards the distributor area.

I *KNOW* you said that none spilled, but for giggles, go slap a T-30 on your ratchet and yank that cover. I'll just bet.............
