Engine noise 850 1995

My car has 183K. It is a manual shift and has been running perfectly for a long time. Today it developed a noise coming from the left front of the engine that sounds like a car horn blowing continuously but at about 10 percent of the volume of typical horn. It seems unchanged by rpms or if car is moving or stopped. It is not coming from the horn. The car still runs perfectly. Any ideas? Thanks
