I'd agree. My '86 745T saw 4 manual trannies (2 of which were remans) until I sold it for a low mileage automatic. I don't like manual trannies.
Most cars I've owned with auto trannies had their original auto trans still in them and shifting perfectly for the life of the car AND I keep my USED cars for 10-15 yrs (typically). All I ever do is change the fluid and filter (on those cars with filters).
As for 850 automatics, I've seen many (most actually) that keep their auto trannies for the "life" of the car (120-200K) that I'm seeing original owners keeping them (the car will last longer) and as we've previously discussed here time after time, changing the ATF will help keep the original trans stay in that car as it does on all other cars too.
