The ScanGauge II is an OBD II reader and is plugged in under the coin holder in the front of the center console.
The OBD I black box is under the hood and does not require a scan tool to retrieve codes.
I think I purchased the ScanGauge II off Amazon about 4-5 years ago. It was kind of pricey compared to what is out there now. I think I paid around $160 for it. Over time, it has paid for itself.
