So the '96 855R I bought recently is doing pretty well, with a couple of exceptions that I'd like to toss up for comment.
1 - The TRACS OFF & ABS lights come on, occasionally, right after the low speed ABS self check. At other times, they come on at highway speed. They don't go off until the ignition is turned off. I did some archival research and found the following on this topic:

I recently had a problem with the ABS light in my '96 855. The light would come on for a few minutes and then turn off. One day the light stayed on for an entire day. The dealer inspected the vehicle and found fault codes 311 and 211 in the computer. I was told that this was a "known problem" by the mechanic. The wiring was "upgraded pre factory instructions". Does anyone know what exctly what the "known problem" is, and what the "wiring upgrade" is?
Thanks,
Keith

we just had the same service done, it apparently involves some wire splices, there is a service bull on it. Did your TRACS OFF light come on at the same time like ours?

The ABS and TRACS are interlinked.
The wiring update is simply to replace the connectors for the front wheel sensor wires. The connection under the fuse panel has been a source of problems such as what you have experienced. The update doesn't change any wiring, just redoes a couple of connections (which are obviously very sensitive). When you look at the affected connectors, they look perfectly fine. Replacing them normally fixes any symptoms.

Is this fix still current? Is there a kit that Volvo sells for this?
2 - With the AC on (chilled air coming from vents) braking action produces a loud, low frequency vibration starting at about 35mph and reducing in frequency, but not amplitude, until stopped. This vibration can be reduced with brake pedal modulation and disappears if the AC is off or if temperate or warm air is coming from the vents. What's going on?
Thanks!
