Autozone policy is to read codes but not to delete them. Other parts stores might lend you a reader to use in the parking lot, which means that you can also clear them.

I am not sure if the 2000 V40 has a purge pump, it seems a little early for that model, so I wonder why disconnecting the battery didn't clear it. The P0455 is generic and not specific to Volvo and could mean several things. Most often it is a cracked "J" hose at the charcoal cannister in the rear of the car.
