There was a thread on the Turbobricks site having to do with

why the compression has to be lowered. I started the thread.

Anyway I think the main reason was that to get more power

you need more air+fuel. A bigger combustion chamber contains more

of that. The turbo provides the filling and it is similar to a

bigger non turbo engine.

An oversimplification of course, but true.
