I have a 1995 850 T5R with a similar problem, it sounds like a whining that directly varies with the engine rpm. Ater driving my car for about 1 or 2 minutes it goes away. I had the hood up and could feel the vibration in what seemed to be some kind of a hose coming up from the transmission, and no other hoses did it, perhaps I could be wrong but it seemed to stem from there. The noise is not there when the temperature reaches above 70F or whenever the car is warm. Another thing that made me suspect the transmission was the fact that it only started doing it after i had the tranny fluid flushed and replaced with Mobil One sythetic. Maybe this may help you to isolate your problem. let me know
