My sympathies to your problem. I got my 1998 S70 in January and I have had the SC-816 radio replaced or repaired 3 times to date. Every one has had a different problem. The first had shorts and failed illumination. The second one turned itself off when the headlights were turned on. The third one (still in the car) decided to eat a CD (I got it back and it hasn't done it since). Basically, I wouldn't put it past the SC-816 to do anything funny. It's electrics seem to rival my old Jaguar XJS's. I recomend you get it replaced by the dealer until it is out of warrenty and then when it is out of warenty and malfunctions just get an Alpine, Blau, Nakimichi, etc., radio droped in. It's an easy install.
