V50 vs V70 T5 high milage -- which is better? (manual transmission)

The V50 and the V70 use the same sort of AWD system?

In my ideal world I'd get a V50 for myself and a V70 for my wife; FWD V70 auto and AWD V50 6spd...

So other than looking for gunk in the oil fill cap, and ideally getting a giant stack of receipts for prior oil changes with good quality oil, what should I look for?
