Have read several times recently this site that the driver's side foot rest / dead pedal removes by motion downward some and then lifting away from the footwell sole. Was wrestling with the pedal in that sense, trying to remove it yesterday preparatory to cooling system work (car is recent purchase, extant service record shows heater core was leaking several tens of thousand miles ago, dealer replaced heater core etc. then for the PO but the driver's footwell carpeting and foam underlayment never got cleaned up, cooling system somewhat related planned work is described at thread: *Head gasket R&R scheduled, parts on hand and specialty tools coming. What else should be done? V70-XC70 1998*) but the pedal was not budging yesterday by this route. This worked yesterday however: took about a 2 in. by 7 in. piece of scrap flat iron, piece is about 1/8 inch thick, held it horizontal with its forward edge resting on the upper edge of the foot rest pedal. Then tapped downward on the piece of iron plate with a hammer, held the hammer sideways because of low headroom forward in the footwell. Tap tap tap it went for all of about 10 seconds before the pedal slid down and allowed itself to be lifted away from its anchorment beneath the carpeting. Rare that I can add material knowledge to this site, hope this helps someone get a foot rest out.
