In '97 Volvo introduced the 850 GLT as a low pressure turbo designation causing the need for diffrenetiation between the two turbo modles. Thus the T5 designation was born.

'94-96 850 turbo's and '97-'00 850/S70 T5's have the same high pressure turbo.
