26 ounces. There is a sticker on the passenger fender about R134a and quantities.
But, you were not empty. Just like my current 855, the compressor cycles so much that nothing ever cools off. I expect 1 can will bring it up to a reasonable level.
What I did with my 1998 as I was adding R134a, was to grab the AC cooling pipe that comes from the evaporator at the firewall. The one going into the car is already cold. When both pipes are cold, stop. You now have enough gas.
Too much will only make the leak worse. Remember R134a expands with heat, a lot. And, if you have too much gas in the system, the high end can reach 500psi quite easily when the ambient temp is in the 90F's. At around 700psi, the pressure valve will open with a big 'bang' and about 12oz of liquid R134a and a bunch of PAG oil will be released.
I don't need to drive an American refridgerator, where snow is blown from the vents. Just so the car removes the humidity and lowers the temp to 76F or so in about 15 minutes is just fine with me.
