Pads need to be removed, then use brake cleaner. I use brake cleaner on new pads, never know what junk is on them after shipping and handling.
My current pads are nice and thick, but I suspect they are the $30 Bosh. They will be replaced with OEM. I can live with a little brake dust, washing the car once in a while does wonders!
Remember, you cannot clean the inside of the rotor very well without taking the rotor off. IF you do that, clean the inside of the rotor first, install the rotor, then clean the outside of the rotor.
