The next time you (or anyone else) get stuck in the snow and you want to rock the car, pull the fuse for the ABS first. With wheel spin, the ABS pump is working to minimize spin which is exactly what you do not want.
Lets say that the pump has failed and it is not a wiring problem. You will need to R&R the pump, flush the brake fluid. Because these pumps rarely fail, I suggest finding one in a junk yard as the 'new' ones from Volvo are super expensive. Make sure that the model numbers are the same, probably 2000 fits also.
Keep everything super clean and note the placement of the 4 brake lines under the current pump. Try not to let all of the brake fluid leak out of the MC, getting the air out of that is a real pain.
Remember, not having ABS is not a disaster. Very few cars had ABS prior to 1990.
