Re: What is AWD ALL

FWD= Thrust is provided by the 2 front wheels

RWD= Thrust is provided by the 2 (well, may be more if it is not a normal car!) REAR wheels

4x4= Normally the vehicle is RWD but at a certain time you can shift a lever (or press a button) and 50% of the torque will be provided by one or both wheels of the front axle and the other 50% by one or both wheels of the rear axle

AWD= There is CONTINUOUS thrust provided by ALL FOUR WHEELS at the same time. Torque distribution varies, depending on certain btands. Volvo's system is normally 95% front wheels, 5% rear wheels but that can be reveresed completely. Subaru is 90% front wheels and 10% rear wheels but the maximum distribution can be only 50-50 unless it is a manual transmission car. Audi's Quattro system is 35% fron wheels, 65% rear wheels, etc. The Lexus RX300 is 50/50, etc.

In the AWD vehicles, you do not need to engage any buttons/levers. The system is automatic.
