Given the issues you mentioned, had you thought of making a nominal offer of, say, $100-$200?

As an owner of a 1995 850 turbo sedan, bought new 21.5 years ago (and now with >200k miles), I would still say that this is the best car I have ever driven on both sides of the Atlantic and both sides of the Pacific (including several very high end German-made cars)! Of course, in our case, a lot of credit now goes to another member of this forum who really helps with the maintenance of our 850.
