I should have worded my question better. I meant to say is the chassis number "derived" from the VIN. Thanks for clearing that up.

There are about six different part numbers listed for my car over the entire chassis range. I can't believe there were that many design changes. However, I know that the most minor of changes can generate a new P/N - even a change in supplier.
