Air conditioning staying on 850 1996

The good news: it's been pretty warm, so the fact that the air conditioning is staying on is OK.

The bad news: the air conditioning is staying on. The toggle switch on the dash moves freely, and the light indicating that it's off goes on when it should, implying that the switch is working. But the air conditioning runs whenever the motor does.

Does the switch activate a relay that activates the system? If so, where can the relay be found? Or does the switch turn the air conditioning (I assume the clutch on the compressor) directly?
