S40 Antenna Replacement S40-V40 2003

Nope, I don't fit in the S40 so I don't even look at them. But, if the antenna mast is broken, you can replace just the mast:

Shop around for prices.

The 850/70 cars have a 16mm nut on the outside of the fender. If the S40 doesn't have something to unscrew, then it must be held on to the back side of the fender and is accessible from the trunk. No need to take the motorized portion of the antenna out.

Once the external part of the antenna is off (the part holding it to the fender), pull the antenna mast out. There will be a long plastic toothed ribbon that comes out with it. Note the direction of the teeth, the new mast will have to be inserted with the teeth facing the same direction.

Turn on the radio, this 'raises' the mast. Insert the new mast plastic part as far as it will go, kind of push hard the last 1/2 inch. A helper to turn the radio off will come in handy, because then the plastic should be reeled into the car. Insert the base of the mast, lock the mast back down, turn the radio on until the mast is extended, then turn it off making sure the antenna is flush again.
