Looking at the Haynes manual removing the transmission is a big job. It comes out from underneath. Haynes rates it as 4 out of 5 wrenches so it is doable. They do list some of the torque values.

If you are really interested in this car and have to time and inclination to change the tranny, you could offer $100 per ton for the car. That is about what he will get for it...
