Brake failure stop safely message -car went into limp mode V70-XC70 2004

Car seemed to make a loud clunking noise when I hit brakes. Then message appeared while driving brake failure/stop safely then went into limp mode and dash went out completely, power windows wouldn’t work. Mechanic is saying he can’t get car to repeat the problem. No problems came up when scanned. He thinks it may be ignition switch? Anyone experienced this problem?
