It seems there is no magical mileage at which coils start to fail. I hear about them failing at 75,000 miles yet our 2.5T and 2.4NA (185,000 and 240,000 miles respectively) are still running fine on their original coils. I would never replace a good working OE coil with an after market unit regardless of the mileage. The advice to carry a spare or two is what I subscribe to. You can grab a couple of OE coils at the pick-n-pull for as little as $5 each when they have there half price weekends.
