I find that hard to believe. The retractor has no memory, just a mechanical spring.

There is a pyrotechnic device that is used to retract the seat belt when frontal collision is imminent. You shouldn't have messed with that.

Something else turned on the SRS light. You need to find out what the error code is and 'repair' that.
