The petcock uses a allen key. At the moment I can not remember the size. As for tips I would do atleast one drain fill cycle. Either that or change it hot like I do. Other wise you will never get all the old fluid out. Basically drain the coolant, and refill with pure water. Then go for a drive. Then come back and drain the fluid again. I would keep doing that until the fluid comes out clear.
