For model year 98 you need special tools to reset. So,
basically the dealer has to do it (IPD sells the tools
but its a couple hundred bucks as I recall. www.ipdusa.com).

There is no warranty issues (legally) with you or anyone else
doing the regular service. But, you should keep records of
the work you did.

By the way, in case you or your husband needs to do other
repairs the most common repair and tune ups are described
