I recently noticed a bad chip in my windshield that has now sprouted 3 inch crack.
I went to the windshield shop recommended by my dealer and asked if they used OEM glass. They said they did. I then asked if it would be identical to the existing glass (tinting band, black shading dots on top and bottom, airbag logo, "volvo" etc..). They said yes, until I took them out to compare mine to what they had. They said I'd have to go to their "premium" glass to get the identical windshield(they were very helpful).
I then had them check the premium glass specs to see if it really was identical. Guess what? It was THICKER than the OEM they initially quoted, and had some airbag markings (though not exactly the same), and it appeared to be the same "brand" as the existing. It was much more $$. I figured I would do some more research first...
Then I got in my car and noticed that each window has security etching with a security code and phone number (including the windshield). What is this and how do I get the glass replaced with the code? Anyone have a similar experience? I don't want to put crappy glass in a safe car... Thanks!
